Ben’s of Bayside Renovation Celebration

New Décor, Memorial Day BBQ, Comedy Show and More

Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers is excited to unveil the final phase of renovations at the company’s Bayside location, its second rehab since opening in 1994. As part of the update, Ben’s Founder/Owner, Ronnie Dragoon, opted to upgrade the bathrooms and furniture, reclaim the terrazzo flooring, lay new carpet and paint the entire restaurant – including the ceilings. Though not visible to customers, the restaurant’s "back of the house" (the kitchen) was also rehabilitated.

While a majority of the construction work took place while Ben’s was closed during the eight days of Passover, renovations continued throughout the subsequent weeks. As with any renovation, there were, of course, some bumps in the road – delayed delivery of furniture and red outlet covers and water damage to a wall that required a replacement of mirrors – but it was all worth it in the end.

With final restoration of Ben’s of Bayside now complete, the company is lighting up the charcoal and grilling up BBQ favorites for a celebratory Memorial Day BBQ “unveiling” event on Monday, May 29, from noon to 8 p.m. During the celebration, guests will be treated to their choice of Ben’s “All American BBQ,” “Chicken Lovers BBQ” or “Steak Lovers BBQ” options, which all come complete with potato salad and coleslaw, pickles, a corn cobette, sliced watermelon and unlimited fountain beverages.

For those who want to get a sneak peak of Bayside’s new look before Memorial Day, Ben’s is also hosting its next installment of Latkes & Laughs at the restaurant on Saturday, May 20. This dinner and stand-up comedy show event includes a prix fixe dinner with dessert and fountain beverage, as well as the humorous entertainment of Chuck Fox, Ellen Karis and Jim Mendrinos.

What’s more, all visitors will have the opportunity to test out Ben’s new “Grandma’s Chicken Soup” recipe, which is available ONLY at Ben’s of Bayside. Try a bowl for $7.99, or add a Matzo Ball or Kreplach for $1.

Celebrate National Burger Month at Ben’s

Eleven Special, Fresh-Ground Burger Options Available Starting May 1

May is National Burger Month and, in celebration, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers has put together a special burger menu that’s sure to please the taste buds. From a classic Ben’s favorite, the “Big Ben,” which features grilled pastrami, onion rings and chipotle mayo, to a unique combo of burger, knockwurst and sauerkraut dubbed the “Knocked Up,” there’s something for everyone on the Ben’s Burger Menu. Not ready to commit to just one? The Ben’s Burger Menu is available from May 1 to May 31, which means there’s time to try all 11 combinations (33 when tallied with beef, turkey or veggie burger options).

Ben’s believes that better beef makes a better burger so, like all Ben’s burgers, the special Burger Month burgers feature a half-pound of fresh, never frozen, USDA Kosher beef that is ground right in the store. Burgers are hand-formed, grilled to order and served on a brioche bun with Ben’s famous fresh-cut fries or a homemade knish. Everyone knows that Ben’s is home to the best corned beef and pastrami around, but Ben’s burgers are a force to be reckoned with, and are never pre-formed or pre-processed like at many other dining establishments. What’s more, many of the topping are homemade, some are unique to our delicatessen heritage and all are fresh.
In addition to the Knocked Up and Big Ben burgers, the company’s special Burger Month Menu includes the “Breakfast Burger” – complete with fried egg and crispy smoked turkey, and the “Salami Burger” – topped with tangy, grilled Hebrew National salami. Also featured are the “Beefstrami Burger” – a blend of ground beef and pastrami, topped with pickle chips, coleslaw and Russian dressing; and the “Coney Island Burger,” served with sautéed onions between two halves of a square knish with a side of baked beans.

Rounding out the lineup are the “BBQ Brisket Burger” – topped with sliced brisket and barbecue sauce; the “Chili Burger” – topped with chili and red onions; and the “California Burger” – topped with Israeli salad and sliced avocado; as well as the “Sliders” – which includes two mini burgers on challah rolls with crispy onions and horseradish sauce.

Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers special Burger Month Menu is available May 1 to May 31 at all seven locations – Bayside, Manhattan, Carle Place, Greenvale, Scarsdale and Woodbury, New York, and Boca Raton, Florida. For more information regarding Ben’s, visit www.bensdeli.net.

Fear Not, Pastrami-Lovers, Ben’s Kosher Deli is Still Here to Deliver!

NEW YORK, NEW YORK — The closing of Carnegie Deli has pastrami-lovers mourning all over Manhattan. Truth is, delicious Jewish-style food is just hard to come by these days. But, lucky for New York, and all its inhabitants, Carnegie doesn’t really have “the last pastrami.” Standing in the heart of Midtown since 1996, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers is a traditional kosher deli that prides itself on its homemade food, coleslaw, pickles, and, of course — pastrami.

Located at 209 W 38th Street, Ben’s of Manhattan is within walking distance to Penn Station, Broadway, the Empire State Building and Times Square. The appeal of Ben’s pastrami is the process that goes into getting it to the customer’s plates. According to Ben’s founder/owner, Ronnie Dragoon, “the key to great pastrami is the cut of meat.” For Ben’s, this means only the navel portion of a kosher steer, supplied by Hebrew National.

“Traditionally, any cut of meat from virtually any animal could be made into pastrami,” explains Dragoon. “But, the belly area is rich and moist, while other cuts tend to be drier or tougher. Navels are typically softer and more flavorful when handled properly.”

After the is meat coated with a rub, smoked and, finally, chilled and packaged for later use, the company’s chefs use a double-steaming process to provide the most tender and succulent pastrami, sliced to order. A dish best served warm, Ben’s Pastrami is most commonly found served on authentic seeded rye and complemented by Ben’s delicatessen mustard and pickles.

“We mourn the demise of any of our brethren delicatessens,” adds Dragoon. “And, while Carnegie Deli has been a stiff competition over the years, it has always been a New York institution, and it will be missed. Now, Ben’s on 38th Street remains one of the few midtown outposts for this traditional and beloved fare. What’s great about that is that Ben’s sandwiches are overstuffed, mouthwatering and satisfying at any, and I mean any, time of the day.”

Ben’s on a Budget: Kids Eat for $3.99 throughout February

No, it’s not a trick. All Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers locations, from the “New York Island” all the way to Boca Raton, Florida, are offering the $3.99 Ben’s Kids Meal Deal with a purchase of a regular priced adult sandwich or entrée. This offer will run throughout the month of February. Recognizing that families are usually feeling a post-holiday financial crunch, Ben’s has always set aside the month of February as a time to provide customers with delicious, freshly-prepared, quality meals for children ages 10 and under.

The great price is only the beginning. What sets Ben’s Kids Menu apart are the mother-approved choices like hand-breaded chicken tenders, real, unprocessed turkey, lean-sliced brisket, fresh-ground steak burgers and other wholesome choices. Ben’s is well-known for its homemade cooking and quality ingredients, but not everyone knows that their children’s meals are made from scratch, too. Even the fries, mashed potatoes and pasta sauce are made in-house. All kids’ meals come with all the pickles and fresh-cut coleslaw one can eat, plus a bottomless fountain drink and a dessert.

“Ben’s Deli has always been family owned and operated, so we recognize the importance that comes with quality time spent with family,” says Ronnie Dragoon, Founder/Owner, Ben’s Kosher Delicatessen Restaurant & Caterers. “We know that families are feeling the financial effects of the holiday season, and that children’s extracurricular activities are keeping everyone busier than ever, so we always like to provide an affordable, healthy and delicious dinner experience that will allow for the whole family to relax, recharge, laugh and catch up with one another.”
