I just re-did the rating to five stars from four stars after I re-read my earlier posted review. The reason for this is; I live in Los Angeles and when I go to NYC I want some traditional NY deli food. I have Langers's here in Los Angeles that really is the holy grail for pastrami but it's in an area of L.A. that I don't get to often. Ben's is the "real deal". I will be in New York soon and will either order in or go to their restaurant.
This is my older review:
I had Ben's deliver to my hotel.
A pastrami sandwich on rye. With deli mustard. It came hot, tender and juicy. $12.99. Also, two pickles. One well done and the other new.
In addition, a large (quart) mushroom barley soup. $8.99. It came with two slices of eye bread. Really excellent.
An associate of mine had the chicken noodle soup with a side order of two matzo balls. Excellent taste on both. Again with two slices of rye bread. Soup (quart) $7.99, matzo balls $3.98.
And a tuna sandwich on rye. With lettuce, tomato and onions. $12.78 plus $0.79 for the added tomato. That sandwich was a monster in size. Probably an inch and a half to 2 inches of tuna alone. Also with pickles and a side of Russian dressing. Another excellent choice.
One other thing I really liked was the delivery person. He was deaf, but we "communicated" well. I am impressed that he wasn't stopped from making a living by his handicap. I gave him a much larger tip than normal. Plus I really like the "spirit" of Ben's for hiring him. That made my meal taste better.
