Ben’s Raises $1,313 for The Angel Fund at Winthrop-University Hospital

Ronnie Dragoon, Owner-Founder and Hal Simon, Manager of Ben’s of Bayside, presented representatives of Winthrop-University Hospital’s Breast Health Center with a check in the amount of $1,313. These funds were raised during Ben’s “Cancer Ain’t Kosher” promotion to support Winthrop-University Hospital’s Angel Fund, which benefits breast cancer patients in need by providing assistance for expenses not covered by insurance.

During the month of October — National Breast Cancer Awareness Month — Ben’s customers who ordered the company’s famous Matzo Ball Soup had the opportunity to purchase a Pink version for an additional charge. For each Pink Matzo Ball that was purchased, $1 was donated to The Angel Fund.

Launched by the National Breast Cancer Foundation, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual October campaign to increase awareness of the disease and promote early detection and treatment. According to the organization, breast cancer affects one out of every eight women.
